Following a late-March snowstorm (March 28), I noticed the weather was supposed to clear the next day. So I headed up the trail from Sylvan Lake to Harney Peak the next morning as I'd always meant to try a winter hike there after new snow. I hoped the clouds would break while I was there and they did briefly giving a few bursts of diffuse sunlight. It was beautiful (and a bit lonely, I had the mountain to myself!) but well worth the effort. Everything was coated with frost or snow, including the now-windowless openings in the top of the fire tower at the summit, which framed a view of clearing clouds and fog over the forest and mountains far below.
